{Scott Owings} Serving as the school district’s chief executive officer, Superintendent Scott B. Owings administers the board-adopted policies in accordance with rules and regulations of the Texas Education Agency. He is responsible for carrying out the district’s mission of excellence in an efficient and effective manner. He is accountable for the daily management and operations of the district and for the supervision of its 1,200 plus employees. 2011-2012 will be Mr. Owings 7th year as Superintendent of Schools. Student enrollment this year is expected to be over 10,000. Sharyland ISD includes eight elementary schools, two junior highs (grades 7-8), and a 3,000 student enrollment high school. In May 2006, a $40 million bond issue was passed by the community. Two new elementary schools opened in August 2007. A new junior high was constructed to replace the B.L. Gray facility and opened in August 2008. In May 2010, a $10 million bond issue was passed for renovations at the high school campus.
Mr. Owings received his undergraduate degree from Central Michigan University and his Masters from the University of Texas Pan American. He has 31 years of experience in education and has worked with all grade levels and aspects of school administration.
