{Rolando Pena} Rolando Peña has been an educator for forty years and in that time he has been a teacher, principal, assistant superintendent and currently a superintendent starting his fifteenth year. He has the longest tenure as a superintendent in Region One and has one of the longest tenures in the state. He has been selected by the Texas Association for School Administrators as a mentor and model administrator for beginning superintendents.
Rolando received his Bachelors of Science degree in Biology and a Masters degree in School Administration from Pan American University in 1972. He attended and graduated from the Edcouch-Elsa high school in 1964. Rolando is married to Libby Peña and have twin girls who are attending Sharyland High School. Rolando and family have a passion for nature and travel. His hobby is nature photography and so comes his love to travel where wildlife is more abundant. He and family spend most summers in Alaska or Canada enjoying nature and the outdoors. Mr. Peña is an active member of the Sharyland Board of Trustees and serves on the Equity Center Executive Committee. The Equity Center is an Austin based lobbying group which brings equity into state funding for poor school districts. Rolando has served as a cabinet member for the Edinburg Teachers' Credit Union and has served on the Valley District Council for the Girls Scouts. He has for many years participated as a delta area fund raising chairperson for United Way. Mr. Peña hopes to continue the professionalism and integrity prevalent in our Sharyland school board today. He will be persistent in bringing higher standards and rigor to the district’s curriculum. |
