Dear Mom and Dad,

Your children will be participating in the Accelerated Reader program this year. This program has proven to be a valuable tool in encouraging students to read and to strive for excellence in reading. Research indicates that participation in the Accelerated Reader program develops reading comprehension and enhances the overall reading experience. Students are encouraged to reach reading goals each six weeks, and those who reach these goals are rewarded with a celebration at the end of each six weeks. We want to give your child every opportunity to participate in all of Accelerated Reader celebrations throughout the year.

Here at Hinojosa we are always striving for excellence, as well as, having fun.

The following is a schedule for the upcoming six weeks’ Accelerated Reader celebrations:

First Six Weeks: October12th

Theme: Books “Arrr” Great! - Students will have fun with pirated-themed activities and discover reading treasures.

Second Six Weeks: November 30^th

Theme: “Reading Magic” - Students will have fun wearing pajamas and will be entertained by a magician.

Third Six weeks: January 25th

Theme: “Game On!"- Students will have fun dressing in their favorite team jersey and enjoy board game activities.

Fourth Six weeks: March 8th

Theme: “Reading Round-up” – Students will be invited to the ice cream shop and enjoy Bluebonnet Ice Cream.

Fifth Six weeks: May 3rd

Theme: “Hawaiian Adventure!"-Students will have fun dressing in a Hawaiian theme and will be invited to the visiting zoo.

Sixth Six weeks: May 17th

Theme: “Reading Rocks!” - Students will be invited to dress in 50's attire and be invited to a dance in the gym.

Perfect All Year: May 29th

Theme: “Big AR Bash” – Students will be invited to play on a giant inflatable slide and moon jumps.

Million-Word Readers –

Students who have read one million or more words will be treated to a “Millionaires’ Luncheon”.
