SHARYLAND ISD SOCIAL MEDIA GUIDELINES


The purpose of the Sharyland ISD Social Media pages is to promote district-wide or school-specific programs, school/staff/student achievements, information, news, etc.  If individual departments, campus, or campus/student organization allows public comments on their social media outlet(s), Sharyland ISD reserves the right to remove messages or postings in violation of the following disclaimer about appropriate conduct.  We welcome your thoughts and comments and look forward to what you have to say. However, we will remove postings that may include:


1. Obscene, berating, ostentatious, pretentious, or violent comments;

2. Abusive, vulgar, profane, insulting, or sexual language or content; 

3. Comments that deliberately provoke an argument or emotional reaction;

4. Attacks on an individual character (these complaints should be referred directly to the District for further assistance);

5. Reference employees or students by name; 

6. Material that violates a student’s or employee's privacy rights or is defined as bullying or harassment;

7. Materials violating copyrights, trademark right, or other intellectual property of any third party;

8. Comments unrelated to the topic of the forum or not within the scope of the responsibilities of Sharyland ISD (or the specific departmental/campus/organization page);

9. Commercial promotions, endorsements of products, services, organizations, other entities, or spam;

10. Solicitation of funds;

11. Comments that threaten to jeopardize any ongoing investigation;

12. Content that implies promotes, or encourages illegal activity; or

13. Hyperlinks to material that is not directly related to the discussion. 


All posting of comments are at the discretion of the page administrators. Campus/Organization/Club posts are vetted, approved, and submitted by campus administrators.  The intent of this policy is not to keep any negative or critical information from being posted, but to protect the privacy and rights of Sharyland ISD staff and students.  We will not edit comments to remove objectionable content, so please ensure that your entire comments contain none of the above.  Official communication from Sharyland ISD is for informational purposes-sharing, reactions, and comment settings may be modified to prevent distractions from the actual message.  Updates and posts regarding safety and security incidents are posted on social media channels as a second layer of communication and are initially only directly sent to the staff/parents/guardians/students of the affected campus or departments.  Official channels of communication for Sharyland ISD include: SchoolMessenger/Skylert, Remind, sharylandisd.org, this page, and social media channels.  Please contact your child’s campus for help or questions regarding your settings on any platform. To protect your own privacy and the privacy of others, please do not include personally identifiable information, such as a Social Security number, address, phone number, or email address in the body of your comment.  Questions regarding social media guidelines can be directed to the Public Relations Department at (956) 584-6471.  Thank you for visiting and/or liking Sharyland ISD.
