Athletics

Sharyland ISD has one of the most impressive athletic programs in the Rio Grande Valley. The Sharyland Rattlers and the Sharyland Pioneer Diamondbacks are a part of the UIL Region IV District 31-5A.

We have an excellent coaching staff at Sharyland High School, Pioneer High School, B.L. Gray Jr. High and Sharyland North Jr. High. We get a tremendous amount of support from the Sharyland ISD School Board, Administration, Faculty, Student Body, Parents and both the Sharyland High School Rattler Athletic Booster Club and the Pioneer High School Diamondback Athletic Booster Club. This is greatly appreciated. When we all work together it develops team unity and an overall successful athletic program. I look forward to another great year of competition at all our athletic events at SISD. Again, thank you for all of your support of SISD Athletics.

Hall of Honor

The Sharyland ISD Hall of Honor officially began during the 2024–2025 school year as a way to recognize and celebrate the rich tradition of athletic excellence, dedication, and service within Sharyland ISD.

To begin the process, Coach Adame and Coach Richard Thompson worked together to develop a committee dedicated to preserving and honoring the legacy of Sharyland ISD athletics. The inaugural committee includes Anna Garza, Dr. Noe Oliveira, Kevin Townsend, Mary Jo Brisnahan, Marcy De La Fuente, Sr., Richard Thompson, Laura Cavazos, and Ron Adame.

The Hall of Honor will recognize outstanding athletes, teams, coaches, and contributors who have made a lasting impact on Sharyland ISD athletics. Athlete and team nominees must have graduated at least ten years before consideration, while coaches must have been out of the district for at least five years before being eligible. Team nominations will be limited to programs that advanced to the State Final Four. The committee will operate through consensus rather than formal voting to ensure thoughtful and meaningful selections. In addition to athletes and coaches, the committee may also consider honoring announcers and sportswriters who contributed to the success and history of SISD athletics.

Each induction class will be celebrated with a special luncheon on the day of induction, creating an opportunity for family, friends, former teammates, and community members to honor those who helped shape the tradition of excellence at Sharyland ISD. The inaugural class of inductees will serve as the “pillars” of SISD Athletics, recognizing the individuals whose achievements and leadership laid the foundation for future generations of Rattlers.
