2022 Summer School

Summer School Programs

Summer school programming includes courses developed for academic intervention, credit recovery, and educational enrichment activities. Most programs have specific qualification criteria and require an invitation to participate. For questions about which summer school opportunities may be appropriate for your child, please contact your child’s home campus.

Bilingual Program

Our Bilingual Program is designed for Prekindergarten and Kindergarten emergent bilingual students. This program is intended to prepare our youngest emergent bilingual students for linguistic and academic success in early grades. This program provides multiple opportunities for students to engage with meaningful linguistic and academic experiences to prepare them for the next grade level.

Junior Reading Program

Our Junior Reading Program is designed for second grade students who need extra support in foundational reading skills development.  Students eligible for this program were selected based on their individual end of year TPRI or Tejas Lee assessments.

Optional Extended School Year (OEYP)

Our Optional Extended School Year Program is designed to provide additional support and instruction to eligible students.  Students in first through eighth grade are eligible for this program if they failed two or more core content areas (Reading, Math, Science or Social Studies) for the entire school year. These students are required to attend summer school at least 90% of the days offered in order to earn credit for promotion to the next grade level.

Acceleration Program – HB 4545

Our Acceleration Program may be appropriate and necessary for students in grades 3-12 who did not meet state standards on STAAR/EOC exams. This includes students who either did not receive a passing score or who do not test.  Campuses will work with families to create Accelerated Instruction Plans (AIPs) that may include an option to attend summer school to complete the required 30 hours of accelerated instruction per subject.

Credit Recovery

Our Credit Recovery Program is designed to provide additional support and instruction to high school students who need to regain credit due to excessive absences and/or failing grades.  These students are required to attend summer school at least 90% of the days offered in order to regain course credit.

Language Enrichment Academy

The Language Enrichment Academy is open to qualifying elementary and secondary emergent bilingual students. Participants focus on enhancing their English language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, in addition to their reading and problem-solving skills.

Extended School Year (ESY)

SISD students identified by their Individualized Education Program team were invited to participate in the Extended School Year (ESY) program. The program curriculum is developed based on each student’s individual needs and identified critical skills.
